I went to the Norfolk Broads with a mate. We had this tiny little cabin cruiser called the 'Petit Barsac'. We wanted to go to this brilliant pub we knew about, but you could only reach it by sailing up this bit of a canal... it was bone dry! We had to get some cans in!

I was not living in England in 1976 - but I do remember my aunt Nellie saying that she survived the drought some because of what she learned from us in the US. You see she had spent a few weeks in the summer with us in New Jersey - where it was hot and humid! She knew to sleep downstairs - since it was cooler! But what she would have given for an air conditioner! I did feel sorry for the Brits when it got close to the 100 degree mark ... staying cool with out a/c or fans is hard!

Swimming in Orrell "resers". Number 2 res almost dried up and number 3, never very deep, did dry up. No one ever drowned in number 1 res until they decided to make it a boating lake and shortly afterwrds someone got stuck in the mud and died.

I was 13. My parents took us to a big reservoir somewhere that had flooded a village when it was made. The water was so low you could see the church sticking up out of the water. I remember them putting a stand pipe at the top of our street too.
