Thanks peterp, they must be nice but sure are expensive, I've been told council houses on estate are going for well over £100.000.

Where the last of the garages stood at the side of the bungalows at the top of Birch Grove they have just built two houses ,don't know how much they are being sold for? Also finished building on what was Slaters pen and across the road on Booths brow Rd plus further up opposite Brocstedes . There is a section of land at the bottom of LG Road near the terraced houses which has been cleared and fenced off. Don't no what is planned for land that Village club stood on?

Things really are changing up there aren't they, the land what village club was on was bought by a young lad of estate and supposedly 2 houses was planned to be built.

About the garages behind the Legion...

Dougie: If you wer looking at the building from the Green, towards Spindle Hillock, there were some trees to the left. Walk on the road towards Spindle Hillock, and to the right, not many yards behind the club ,there was an entrance through the trees. Not much more than a dirt road. After a few yards, this turned to the left. I remember garages to the right of this.

The lawn at the back with the big weeping willow tree in the middle was still there in the 60s, till they built the new S & S club by this time I had moved away from DG, any of you remember the Free and easy on boxing day afternoon in the 70s as if you were in the club you HAD to give a song when asked or pay a 50p I would pay the 50p gladly before a song
