I was born 1960, and lived there 24 years. Bluebell, village club (and blackpool days) and the rest.

This is my very first post so here goes.
I lived in Hawthorn Ave from 1948 at age 2 till I left home at 21.We were the first tenants in the council house and looking back we were so lucky to have these fantastic homes. They had a lot going for them.
The people I knew in the street included the Atkinsons, the Fairhursts, the Athertons, the Mcphersons, the Ainscoughs, the Wildes, the Prescotts, the Smiths, the Tattoms, and the Lawtons. Lots of others too numerous to mention.
I went to the Rectory school till 1957 and then to Ashton secondary modern till 1961.
Could anybody hazard a guess as to who I am?

Bert, The Fifties is the field between Birch Grove & billinge Rd & there is a public footpath going over it, it used to stretch to Rectory Rd before the council houses were built, so that is all the Fifties was , a big field, but there used to be a little stone cottage on Billinge Rd near the footpath, trying to remember the name of the people who lived there, they were knocked down about 1948-9.
Replied: 26th Jun 2008 at 22:29
cheers bentlegs, i've been trying find out about the fifties, crossed that field almost everyday as a youngster, but the cottage was well before my time.

Bert/Frank he as a sign on Downall Green Road calling it moore lane farm, but the old moore lane farm was at the top of Soughers lane on moore lane now called Downall Green Road, was never a farm down that drive it was only going to a walker down pit that came under landgate pit, and an old garage just at the back of the two houses

If you want a drink you have to go into the hotels. Life is good here though although its very hot, its well over 100 at the moment. My mum is coming over in 3 weeks i can't wait for that.
