“I think for a party leader to be so neutral on it is strange indeed. I think for any party leader to say ‘I am not taking a position on such things’ is very strange, especially for a major party leader because it’s not like they’re a small party. It’s almost as if he can’t bring himself to say it.

"You do Not critisise men who are laying down their lives for their country."

People who disagreed with the UK's involvement in Iraq could argue that the troops were not "laying down their lives for their country." They were there, because they were ordered to be there.
Read up on the Chilcot inquiry.
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/jul/06/iraq-inquiry-key-points-from-the-chilcot-report

I have criticised people who have carried out violent acts, or condone violence, and will continue to do so.

I can find no justification for the Warington bombings, nor the events in Ballymurphy, or Londonderry.
if it is wrong: it is wrong. I hope that is clear enough.

I know they were there illegally,

Any service man who has been ordered to a war zone hasn't laid down his life for his country.

I imagine anyone on this site who has relatives who have died in the two major Wars of the last century, and the more recent ones will appreciate you saying that they didn't lay down their lives for their country

My father fought in WW11, and he was fighting for his country.

Not all wars fought by British forces are fought to defend this country. Quite a few were fought for political reasons and the Iraq war was a classic example.

My country, right, or wrong, is not a strong moral argument.

Try to consider that opinion.

There are no excuses for Corbyn no matter how people try to defend him, he is a traitor.

Makes no odds if our forces are fighting for this country or any political war elsewhere, they are deployed and go and do the job they are trained for, whether they agree with it or not. Most service men and women want to use the unique skills they have been trained in. A little respect is all they ask.

I seem to remember you saying just the same about Scargill the wannabee Tory on his fleecing the NUM for his £34,000 a year luxury flat he'd been keeping for 20 odd years when the NUM didn't know they were paying the rent.

Better still he applied for the £1 million property at a knock down price in 1993 under the Right To Buy scheme. THATCHERS right to by scheme.

No wonder the miners ended up on their arses with a leader like that, took them all up the river without a paddle and left the daft buggers there.

Why do you never post about him taking two very large cuts from the Libyan donation one for £29,000 as a bridging loan and another £25,000 for his home improvements at his Yorkshire house, but he only gave £10,000 to the Notts miners. Not to mention the £1,000,000 Russian donation for the Welsh miners he hid away in an Irish bank until 12 months after the strike had ended, It almost made the Scots and Welsh miners to split from the NUM.

In my opinion if a person has a mobility scooter on the mobility scheme then they genuinely need it.
If they were just after the benefits (PIP) then surely they would accept the cash rather than have a scooter hire taken out of their allowance?

The chauffeur drives them to Wigan town centre (in the obligatory Mercedes) whereupon they get sit down outside Greggs with their paper cup and the good people of Wigan hand them fivers (always fivers)! I know this to be true because they have been seen counting said fivers in the pub before getting back into the Mercedes to be driven back to Homeless Mansions!

Zanzibar Spangles, None of them are homeless!! Their butler brings them breakfast in bed every morning, Then he lays their rags out for the day. The chauffeur drives them to Wigan town centre (in the obligatory Mercedes) whereupon they get sit down outside Greggs with their paper cup and the good people of Wigan hand them fivers (always fivers)! I know this to be true because they have been seen counting said fivers in the pub before getting back into the Mercedes to be driven back to Homeless Mansions!"

Your wrong they get the train from Bolton, Manchester and Liverpool to come and do their work/begging. Then after a days graft off they go home to their flats/houses to copper up and visit their local dealer.

"Why do you never post about him taking two very large cuts from the Libyan donation one for £29,000 as a bridging loan and another £25,000 for his home improvements at his Yorkshire house, but he only gave £10,000 to the Notts miners. Not to mention the £1,000,000 Russian donation for the Welsh miners he hid away in an Irish bank until 12 months after the strike had ended, It almost made the Scots and Welsh miners to split from the NUM.

Why do you fail to posts this about that "glorious leader"? Stealing from men on the picket line that's some leader."

Be good Christians and take the homeless people in, give them a hot bath/shower clothe and feed them for as long as you wish, your tax will go towards others you are unable to take in so your safe there, plus you will actually be able to see exactly what your good deed has done for them.

What a steaming load of "Barry White".
Not all homeless people are drug addicts thieves or are there by choice.
Plenty are victims of circumstance, divorce, loss of a job, ex squaddies!
Yes those same squaddies who people earlier in this thread were telling us the British public should back them no matter what the circumstances or how they got there.
They get demobbed end up on the street and suddenly the same people are now denying they exist.

I'm not denying they exist they do. Like I said re-home them or make sure you take them to a refuge for the homeless, in the case of veterans contact the SSAFA team on 0800 731 4880 and give them their details.

They are very helpful not just for the homeless but also for their families.

Right that's conclusive, no homeless on the streets of Wigan then.
Best thing to do is forward it to the Brick Homeless Shelter project, inform them that you're onto their little scam (also could you ask them for the money back my daughter raised when she spent a group night on the streets a while back whilst you're in touch with them) and will be notifying the authorities, and hope to see them closed down by the end of the week.

Yes. They have to be returned.

In my opinion if a person has a mobility scooter on the mobility scheme then they genuinely need it.
If they were just after the benefits (PIP) then surely they would accept the cash rather than have a scooter hire taken out of their allowance?

A lot of people, including my next door neighbour buy their own."

Having the scooter gives them more credit for their disability when they go for medical revues so they choose that option, the person who lives near me had one for years until the shake up, now the person walks everywhere and signs on at Brocal House. Apparently they "genuinely needed" the scooter for all those years and disability benefits that went along with it, It wasn't unknown for that person to visit the local betting shop and pub without the scooter. Two to three holidays a years while others went to work to pay for all this.

These aren't isolated cases, there is/was an epidemic of workshy cheats. Many brought to rights by the benefit shake up.

I have seen people sleeping in shop doorways during the night in Standishgate.
The fact they may or may not be there on any given night does not mean I did not see them with my own eyes, and that they have never been there.
As already stated the Brick are working hard to get such people off the street thank goodness.

As stated earlier I'll let other people make their minds up that, in a day and age were we need a minister for homelessness and one for suicide in a borough with nearly 300,000 people in it, and after reports of record rough sleepers in that borough by several different organisations, the chances of seeing rough sleepers in shop doorways is as "likely as seeing someone doing naked cartwheels down Standishgate".

No I'm saying the fact YOU didn't see anyone sleeping rough isn't proof positive that people aren't or never have.

There's a bit of a dispute here about the actual figures for rough sleepers, give them a bell and tell them they're are both wrong it's actuall ziltch.

I honestly believe your Donald Trump fake news school of reasoning: "I've not seen it so it isn't/ didn't/hasn't' happened wont catch on.

Go into the town centre after 11:30pm with your phone and photograph them.

I travel through the town centre every night and there are no rough sleepers at 11:30,
not because I don't think anyone isn't homeless in Wigan but because they aren't there.
I know there are homeless people in wigan but they are not sleeping rough in the town centre.
Some buffoons on here are conflating beggers with the homeless which in my veiw
does more damage than help.
Beggars portray themselves as being homeless for obvious reasons,
not obvious to everyone but there you go

Or do you just walk up the main drag?

Do you check the local park? Do you check derelict buildings? Do you check the local bus station? Do you check anything apart from two doorways?

Whups

There aren’t any French car companies in Halewood. They operate over the water at Ellesmere Port.
The Nissan Qashqai is in a market segment, Crossover SUVs, that is falling in popularity. It’s sales are down by 15%, two of it’s main rivals, the VW Tiguan and the French Peugeot 3008, are down by 18%.
Hence the decision to go to double day shift working in lieu of the night shift.

Warning anyone clicking the link below will see a photo of a homeless person sleeping rough at the top of town. This image seems to have upset some people (strangely only the people who denied they existed, but that's another story) so I have put it in 'link' form.
The same link form I used above for some newspapers headlines reporting on the homeless of Wigan.
They also had photos showing homeless people but for some reason they didn't seem to cause the same offence.

No it didn't, and that isn't the point as you well know.
I took some photos to prove beyond doubt homless people are sleeping in shop doorways at night.
I wouldn't have taken any photos if someone on here hadn't posted some of empty doorways to try and somehow show they aren't.

Leave it on and show the world how low some people will go to get a point across. Me I would hang my head in shame after such a stunt, still you left him/her some money, how big of you.

I'm not the one going out of my way to find homeless people in town to take photos of them then walking away all smug because you have got the evidence and leaving a few quid. What was you thinking when snapping the poor bugger? You certainly didn't give a toss about him/her. You had probably been wetting yourself all day with the thought of getting your Big Reveal on WW. So I cocked up with a meeting date, big deal, but this photographing of the homeless for your own ego is disgusting. There is no excuse for this no matter how much you try to justify your action.

Nothing you did helped the person on the street least of all taking a photo of the poor sod. Then to post it on WW for your own gratification and point score is beneath contempt. like I said salve your concision by handing out a few quid and posting your excuse on here. I'm sorry the truth hurt you so much but there you go. There was no need for you to take that photo except to do what you have done. Why didn't you take him home for a warm meal and shelter? Because you don't really care that is the truth, you needed to prove to a few on WW that people sleep rough in town and that was your motive nothing more. Give yourself a big pat on the back.

Go on remind us all how far out of my way I went?

You stopped to take a snap that's far enough.

".walking away all smug.."
I didn't realise you was there at the time checking my demeanor.

Your action is enough to warrant that comment.

"..leaving a few quid.."
YOU asked ME what I had done for the guy, I didn't proffer that information!

I asked why didn't you take him home for a warm and feed you replied Why don't you? and later I left him money.

"So I cocked up with a meeting date, big deal",

I think the knockout blow was when some scumbag stopped to take a photo of a man/woman sleeping rough to post on WW and eased his conscience with a bit of cash.

Still I can walk away from this feeling good for pointing out the disrespectful act whereas you know what you did was nothing more than an act of getting one over to prove a point.

I really think you should remove that photo for the sake of the person on the floor, that is if you really have any feelings.

"I didn't need to 'prove it' quite as much as Spangler who shot up town that night and started photographing empty shop doorways."

Aye. And every night since

"They didn't exist again in the TC last night"

I don't believe you. Have you any photos to prove it?

Yes almost every night, that's why I'm better informed than you.

Maybe I am missing something but how can not taking a photo of something be irrefutable evidence of that thing not existing?

I haven't got a photo of the queen visiting the toilet, on that basis can we assume she never does?

Bit of a difference LG.
The existence of God is based on faith in his belief, not physical proof. Some have that faith some don't.

However the existence of rough sleepers on the streets of Wigan does not require any faith, just a pair of eyes and being in the right place at the right time is all that is needed.

Undoubtedly, on the streets of Wigan,
no one has disputed that fact.
But not in town centre doorways, I walk through the town centre very frequently,
I know

Ahhh.....now I understand. You spend all night, every night walking around the whole of the town centre on a route that regularly passes every doorway?

Forgive me but doesnt that become a tad tiring.......as well as boring?

Please don't try to misrepresent me,
I am speaking from my own personal experience, I've never said that no one has slept in the town centre.
They are there during the day but not at night, where they go I haven't a clue.

"I didn't need to 'prove it' " But you did you took a snap. How could you have proved to ZS that there 'was' someone sleeping rough if you hadn't. My aim is very good by the way

My only other thought on the matter is if you are that content with your action of taking that photo and you have no qualms about posting it and willing to argue the toss over how right it is...that you set it up and he's a mate of yours. Either way it isn't right and you know it.

Chatty seems you have been patrolling the town centre every night since I posted that photo,
looking for a 'rough sleeper',
well it's took you nearly a fortnight and you found only one in that time, and on a Saturday night (one of the few nights I don't visit).
And a very dubious one at that

Maybe I should come at this from a far simpler angle and ask you...Why did you take that photo, Chatty, on the way home from a night out?

Simple question which requires a simple answer.

Replied: 17th Oct 2019 at 12:25

Simple answer, on a night out on my direct route home without taking one step of a detour.
Not only that it was my first venture through the town centre night or day since the homeless situation came up on this thread.

It does tickle me though that Spangler is judging me by his own actions:
Chatty seems you have been patrolling the town centre every night since I posted that photo,
looking for a 'rough sleeper'

Everything about chatty is contained in his last post.
He has to drive the message home that he hasn't gone out of his way, without 'one step of a detour'
This seems very important to him.
As for judging him on my own actions, that would never be.
If I had come across anyone sleeping rough I would have said so, I wouldn't have photographed them,
They're entitled to privacy and respect

So that when I awoke in the morning I could be absolutely sure I hadn't dreamt it due to the rabid denial of it happening by people on here.
And before you ask I then posted it to shut said people up once an for all.
Best laid plans and all that eh.

So why even bother going out photographing empty shop doorways as some sort of proof, if you are happy to admit you wouldn't photograph an occupied one?

What an absolute clown, I rest my case!

It is not illegal to take photographs or video footage in public places unless it is for criminal or terrorist purposes.

Why would I want to do that?
You've have shown to be wrong about rough sleepers in Wigan and have squealed like a trapped pig for 5 days solid.
You made a mistake so suck it up and get over it.
