Haydock in liverpool

Replied: 8th Feb 2014 at 01:30

Posted by: tonker (27931)

If you can class being just 16 miles away from somewhere as being 'in' then, yes, I suppose it is. Just as much as Downall Green is in Liverpool too, and as much as Wigan is in Oldham.

In fact, Haydock is the same distance from Manchester as it is from Liverpool. So it's, kind of, unique, it being in two different places at the same time.

How remarkable, cor blimey and how's about that then?

I know I've been gone too long when a 100 mile round trip is nothing...Years ago after my Mam had died, my Dad came over on a visit and I took him to visit some old friends of mine, who Dad had become good friends with on a previous visit when I lived in Clearwater...
We went for lunch, 200 miles there 200 miles back and Dad couldn't believe it. He said it was like driving to London for lunch, then driving back .. He talked about it for years.
Every where we go if it is out of town is at least 100 miles.. we are only 30 miles from the coast, but that's all it is is coast line, no beach, it is 100 miles to the beach, 200 miles to the nearest big city, east, west or north, cant go south we'd be in the Gulf of Mexico lol...

Ok I have been speaking with Richard's friend who visited him on Friday. The update is that yes he has a touch of pneumonia which is being treated with antibiotics. His movement on the left side is restricted to just being able to move his fingers at the moment. He is chatting well and as sharp as always, not confused and says he's so bored there. He did say that he has had lots of mates visiting (that has got to be uplifting for him surely)! His friend seems to think it's going to be a long haul for him but with the right support and good friends he'll hopefully start to get some better movement on his left side and get on the road to a full recovery. Come on Richard we're all in your corner

This is what it says under the pic, on WW. My brother John thinks the smaller man might be uncle John. Also known in Bryn as Dusty. These men are also from Dads side of the family and come from Beach hill. Albert Edwards is my dads brother from Newton Le Willows on the pic.

uncle joe,

From left to right as you look up to the 4 houses you asked about, Joan Harrison, Tom and Margery Greenall, Harry and Margaret Howarth, Mrs. James (a former teacher at St. Peters, Bryn).

That was from a few years ago. As of now Mr & Mrs Greenall have passed away, Mr & Mrs Howarth have passed away and Mrs James has also passed away.
Geoff Howarth lives in his mum and dad's house and Mrs James' daughter is in her house.
As regards Graham Howarth he lives in the Birchwood area.

I hope this helps.

erwick, many thanks for your efforts.

Mr Howarth was a teacher of mine at Rectory, I recall he was a good artist.

I feel I should know you uncle joe??

Mr Howarth was also a teacher of mine. Yes he was a good artist and actually was responsible for my winning of a Brook Bond art competition whilst being at Rectory, about 1960.

Erwick: I think that you would be a little older than I am, somewhere between myself and my brother. More people on here seem to have known him.

RobinG: I never knew Mr Howarth had anything to do with the BB. You've taught me something new.

Uncle Joe. There is a photo of the Boys Brigade standing outside Holy Trinity Church in the 'North Ashton' section on WW, entitled 'Church Parade 1955', Harry Howarth is at the back of the group. The picture was submitted in April 2009.

Yes it is, John Shaw Sylvia's husband gave me the photo to enlarge as a surprise for her, I asked if I could put it up on the Garswood Hall bowling club noticeboard(as they both bowl there) asking where the photo had been taken and could anyone name the people in the photo they got the location of the photo but not the people,

Imagine Sylvia's surprise when asked do you know the people in Dougie's photo as you come from DG,(the photo was A4 size)
