Free Broadband For All

Started by: TerryW (inactive)

Corbyn's policy to give everyone free broadband will cost £20 billion they say. Why when he continually cries about the NHS being underfunded? Another pie in the sky idea to get voters no doubt.£20 billion won't even get the idea off the ground did they let the racist dope Diane Abbott do the figures?

Now it's reported that BT shares have dropped since this idea broke.

Labour are keeping their most fanciful promises back at present, and will only wheel them out if they look like they are going to be defeated.

We are all going to be given a unicorn, a stable to keep it in, and a large enough garden to plant the money trees we will all be provided with.

This ludicrous idea is going to backfire badly. Surly voters will see through this gimmick to give everyone free broadband when we have people living homeless and the NHS and the railways are falling apart. I have been a lifetime labour voter but this Labour lot are a bunch of wasters. I have a good idea lets give everyone free mobile phone scratch cards.

Actually ............

By 2030 the standard BT phone, will be a broadband only line, a data line, and to make a voice call, it will go via the broadband system, and it is known as a VOIP ~(Voice Over Internet Provider) call.

On top of that BT or should I say 'Open Reach' will be running a fibre optic cable to everyone's house, they have already have connected most of their street cabinets to the fibre optic system, and this will give mega data speeds to all people and businesses

So Corbyn is as usual talking absolute rubbish ...

mr corbyn's project does have several drawbacks.
1. not all folk have internet access via phones or pc's.will he be purchasing the required equipment for the needy.
2. more money spent on part nationalising BT which he does not have.
3. more money wasted on a very dubious project.
4. where is the cash coming from ,lo and behold, increased taxes for big corporations.
you have to give it to the man ,he does not lack ideas
however poor these may be.
how long before the big corporations move out of his reach and its left to you know who to foot the bill, the great british public, venezuala here we come.

Nationalisation of Openreach will eventually result in in lower performance which will drive people to mobile networks which are faster and more reliable. The resulting expansion of the mobile networks will bring prices down and render fibre to home obsolete.

British Broadband Corporation proposal is stupid, ludicrous, beyond belief. Technology moves at warp speed - Rebecca Long Bailey at the helm?

I'm convinced that voters will desert Corbyn and McDonnell (and hopefully our own local MP's), except for younger voters (and maybe we can forgive their naivety, not having experienced socialism) and the dyed in the wool Labour traditionalist.

Nightmare scenario of nationalisation still hangs over us.  Let's hope the British public make the right choice.

when i say monopoly, i cannot get my water from anyone but rip off united utilities so i am stuck with a whopping great bill.
with regard to energy companies ,you can throw a butterfly net over their supposed independent prices.

The problem is we have gone from one extreme to another from being overmanned and not doing a proper days work to working for 8 hours without lifting your head up, that's why we always have to queue in supermarkets and post offices and when you ring a call centre your in a queue the doctors and hospitals are like an assembly line but going back to unions is not the answer. We need to get our priorities right for instance I passed a young Asian woman in the street selling The Big Issue which is basically begging so I turned back bought the paper and then give the paper back to her, 5 mins later she was on the mobile phone!!! people complain they don't get paid enough but find the money for mobile phones, cable tv, broadband, continental holidays, scratch cards cigarettes, cars my point is there is far too much demand on the average persons wage to fund all this and pay rent and buy food something has to give.

They, or at least their predecessor, the Post Office Engineering Department, were my first employer when I left school in early 1960's. Even though I ceased to work for them, I always had a soft spot for them, and retained an interest in their circumstances.

In the 1980's, my next door-but-one neighbour was a BT Engineer, whose experience went right back to my time with them. Needless to say, it is a topic we would chat about endlessly.

He too, took early retirement circa 1990, citing dissatisfaction recognisably similar to what you describe.

Shame really. Up until then, I had always considered them to be a good employer.

ps He also sold his BT shares, correctly recognising that they had peaked, and that the company would be unable to sustain what was being expected of it!

Yes, if you look at what people are actually using the internet for, then it is highly questionable whether it is something that should be tax-payer subsidised.

Porn, commerce, on-line bullying, the sort of fight-club you get on WW, ripping-off content in a manner which trounces the intellectual property rights of owners, and data capture to shepherd people into purchasing/voting etc in manner which fulfils someone else's agenda other that your own......

Do we really want our taxes subsidising all of that?
