They, or at least their predecessor, the Post Office Engineering Department, were my first employer when I left school in early 1960's. Even though I ceased to work for them, I always had a soft spot for them, and retained an interest in their circumstances.

In the 1980's, my next door-but-one neighbour was a BT Engineer, whose experience went right back to my time with them. Needless to say, it is a topic we would chat about endlessly.

He too, took early retirement circa 1990, citing dissatisfaction recognisably similar to what you describe.

Shame really. Up until then, I had always considered them to be a good employer.

ps He also sold his BT shares, correctly recognising that they had peaked, and that the company would be unable to sustain what was being expected of it!
