Gaffer that has been around a good few days. I notice the newspaper article says she was “fired” but later says “ suspended” Be interesting to see what happens down the line.

Wigan Council's over the past years don't have a good track record as far as' New builds' in Wigan are concerned.
1.WIGAN INTERNATIONAL POOL Wasn't in fact an 'International size pool, as it was too short. Demolished
2.MARKET GATE and GALLERIES the council demolished a lot of Wigan's hertitage to build these and now they lie empty. and are due for demolition and now to be rebuilt by Johnny Foreigner
3. GRAND ARCADE Build this, at the expense of MARKETGATE and the GALLERIES. WHY was it built when everyone knew what the outcome would be.????
4. WIGAN PIER ORWELL and THE WAY WE WERE Now been empty for years and now being refurbished.
5.WIGAN BUS STATION Recently rebuild.
6. WIGAN MARKET PLACE Must have been rebuild a couple of times. in recent years
7. WIGAN MARKET HALL demolished and a new Market Hall built. Now to be demolished.
8. POLICE STATION now a hotel and a new police station build.

I've said it previously the people who made these decisions have no affinity to the town and probably now work for other councils. Doing the same to those towns.

To be fair though Grand arcade is just Station road with a lid on it.

I suppose it is, isn't it

I have always said that they moved Debenhams (R.I.P.) from the centre of town, to the bottom of Station Road

One thing I don't get about the building of The Grand Arcade is before it was build and up millgate is the council tax office. Well at the right hand side of that was a hill that was quite a steep drop (I used to run down it as a kid) and it brought you onto station road.

Well the steepness of that hill has now disappeared. You just go down a slight slope to where that mine area is and the other enterance is that brings you out where HMV is.

There is evidence on how steep it was as when you walk towards the main entrance the escalators would be roughly how steep it was. Maybe I'm overthinking but how come it's not as steep a drop like it used to be on that side?

How can you compare the GRAND ARCADE with Station Road? RITZ, CASINO, POWEL LIBRARY etc. Not the slightest resemblance to Station Road

Admin Station road from Woollies end went down to the ritz then dog legs to the right to the station.. The Grand Arcade goes down from Smiths then dog legs to the right down to Debenhams . So a modern build but on the same footprint has the old Station Rd so I see were Scorpion is coming from

The librarian knew before she posted that it would cause bother and it is part of her contract not to speak out about council policy on social media. She is right about any chinese involvement in the rebuild of Wigan on all points and the chinese are buying up large parts of the Uk and not only in building work

Scorpion, are you referring to Stairgate? During the building of that mess they levelled off ground to make the new car park.

Riocaroni yes Stairgate. I've just seen a pic of it on the photo album from the 80s. I forgot about the carpark at the back of the civic center. It still doesn't look as steep though these days as it use to be though

Admin, Station road was run down before the grand arcade opened. The Ritz had closed mainly due to the cinema opening at Robin park plus all the other units like where starburst was were in a bad way.

What do you think should of happened to station road if it didn't become The grand arcade? Also anyone know when did Station road carpark open?

Back to topic.

I have given careful thought as to the motives of Maureen O'Bern, because she has aspirations to be a politician ....

She stood in the 2019 General Election as an independent for the Leigh Constituency.

LINK

And a contract is a contract, if when she started to work for Wigan Council, she signed her work contract and thus agreed to 'Not' bring the council into 'disrepute', then that is what she should have done, and if she did wish to slag off the council, then she should have resigned from her position first.

Why am I being harsh about it ?

Because I think she is being an attention seeking Lobby Gobbler, and will probably stand for the next local council elections as an independent, on an anti Wigan Council, AND anti Wiganer ticket, because those Leythers hate us Wiganers with a passion .....

I doubt that the Council case will stand up in court. She wasn't criticising the approved council policy of the redevelopment of the area in question. She was asking whether the choice of contractor was appropriate given the Chinese track record on human rights. From the highest levels of Government, the Civil Service and others there is serious concern that there is a growing encroachment by the Chinese into British business and the universities.

Gaffer,
The Chinese influence is all over the world. They own ports all over the Southern Hemisphere in poor countries. I think it follows something called “ The old silk trade route” They have their fingers in quite a few pies here in Canada.

Cant see the issue, all well written contracts of employment generally state "Do not say anything or do anything that may bring the employer into disrepute" She hasn't kept to her side of the deal and given how it has escalated there is more than likely some "history" we don't know about.

I think she's a past 'whistleblower'!

Anyroadup, all this Chinese 'investment' in the UK stems from the 2013 government launch of the 20 year planned strategy of the 'one public estate programme'. The one I've been telling you about for many years.

You are wrong about my motives in criticising Wigan Council over the Galleries deal. I did it in a internal meeting because I do not like China's human rights abuses. I have worked in Leigh for many years and stood as an Independent for Leigh in the last General Election . However I am a Wiganer and have lived in Scholes all my life, and intend to stand as an Independent for Ince Ward in the next local elections and as an Independent for Wigan in the next General Election.

Hello Maureen and welcome to Wiganworld.

I’m an Incer and if you’re proactive you’d have my vote - Ince desperately needs a new breed of councillor.

This is currently Lower Ince’s community noticeboard (under the care of a councillor).

It’s looked like that since well before the ‘Our Town’ programme came to Ince in May (Link). It’s even Ince’s Our Town Community Day across the road from the noticeboard next week, but you wouldn’t think it.

(I did offer to help with the board a few years ago, but the councillor said they’d sort it).

Please accept my most humblest and sincere apologies for the above mentioned comments of mine, I am truly sorry.

The board is a disgrace and shows a lack of interest by the councillors of Ince.

Apology accepted Tommy Two Shoes .

I was curious about the identity of the 'Wigan North Township Forum' and the interesting logos. A quick google shows Jo Anne answered this 5 years ago on WW. Tonker need not reply.
