COACH ROAD

It has come to my attention the state of the "coach road" footpath at the side of ST.PAUL Church Goose Green. The other day i went to place some flowers on my parents grave only to find that one's access from the Snowden ave side was completely over-run with Nettles actuallly i first thought they were young trees because of the height of them almost 5 feet tall. So that got me to think who owns and is resposible for the upkeep of the footpath/road?? IS it the dreaded council? is it the local church?? it was when i was engaged in a talk with some-one doing their family tree that during one of the many searches they were doing this person unearthed the actual owner/s ,,, That is it belongs to the descendants
of WINSTANLEY HALL. Again before i start looking into it myself i thought i would ask my cohorts on W.W .I eagerly look forward to some sensible replies.

Fingers, in the original post GB said he was using the footpath/road to put flowers on his parents grave.

Hindley Hall was on that site. In 1721, Hindley Hall was bought by Meyrick Bankes, the owner of Winstanley Hall.

I've looked at Public Rights of Way on Wigan Definitive map and statements online, nothing is shown. Though that's not conclusive, as its best to consult the working copy at Wigan Life Centre. Nothing for it under Landowners statements either.

From Tonkers post, it looks like there is a Winstanley Hall connection.

HI tonker, The question about Winstanley Hall as far as i know was owned by a JAMES BANKS 1542-1617 PURCHASED THE ESTATE IN 1595/6 FROM A MEMBER OF THE WINSTANLEY FAMILY.
THE WINSTANLEY PROPERTY HAS BEEN IN THE POSSESSION OF THE BANKS FAMILY FROM THAT TIME TO THE PRESENT DAY.
I do not have any recollection of Hindley Hall being linked with Winstanley Hall , but i will try and find out the connection if any!
The latest about the "coach road"the state has somewhat been attended to ie all those dreaded nettles have been scythed down ,it's now a lot better to walk along that is until it grows back again .my reason for going again was to check on parents flower's i had laid and to water them the ROSES ( GOLDEN BOUQUET YELLOW) ARE STILL SUPERB THANK YOU ALL.

HINDLEY HALL became the property of Meyrick Bankes of Winstanley, and is held by his trustees. (Fn 31)

Firstly, Winstanley Hall has no descendants. This is due to the fact that it's a building and does not reproduce.

Secondly, the Winstanley estate (owned by Bankes) stopped at Smithy Brook, where the Hindley estate started.
So, it follows that the land the churchyard is on used to belong to the Winstanley estate, although it probably doesn't now.

I would say it belonged to the church.


And This Mon probably owns Worsley Mesnes!

Latest up date on the pathway "coachroad" somebody's have now completed the trimming of all the MILE high nettles it looks a better but i would think now would be the time to get one of those small dozer's to go along and and take a fair section of the soil off, then put weedkiller down then a few loads of the gravel the railay type ,then hopefully that would be that!
