Does anyone know where I can access Inquest Reports from 1916 please.

history shop/museum of wigan life is a good starting point if its a local inquest you want to trace.
Wigan Examiner and Wigan observer files will probably have the info but unless you've got a date for the death you'll just have to wade through them all for the year. Good luck.

If you are looking for a specific person a death certificate will pinpoint the event date. If there was an inquest the coroner's name will be listed under the cause of death.

I've got the death certificate which gives both the date of the inquest and the Coroner's name (albeit slightly unreadable). Maybe H Mulligan or H Milligan can't decide which.

Wigan Heritage Service - Local & Family History

I found a report on the death by drowning in the Leeds Liverpool canal of the wife of my Great uncle. I searched following an entry in the cemetery indexes (thanks Freda) for 1907. It involved going through the microfilms of the local newspapers of the time. It was a fascinating read. She was a husband beating (husband was blind), drunken, philanderer according to the report. She jumped off a bridge into the canal.

I wish I could find a report of my GT uncle drowned in Portobella Basin Dublin Ireland 1885 north land fuseliars.Got the death cert but will nt give the report of the inquest opr if the body was recovered

There are quite a lot of newspaper reports of Wigan inquests on "Old Mersey Times" web site. It's a fascinating site for lots of other subjects as well.The site is not completely dedicated to Merseyside.
