With An Owl!

Just read an odd crime account:

Police appeal after boy assaulted with silly string

Lancashire Police are appealing for information after an 11 year old boy was sprayed with ‘silly string’ and assaulted in Morecambe.

It happened between 3pm and 4pm outside Pound Fever on Euston Road when the boy was walking with a friend through Morecambe town centre carrying an owl.

The boys were approached by a large group of teenaged boys, aged in their mid-teens who began to spray them both with silly string. The victims have run away and the teenagers have then given chase, punching one of the boys in the face.

PC Ben Hanley said: “This is an unusual incident which has occurred in broad daylight in the middle of the afternoon so I would appeal to anybody that witnessed it or with any information about those responsible to come forward.

“The motive for the offence is unclear at this time but it is possible they were trying to steal the owl. The use of the string has clearly caused the owl some distress but fortunately they managed to keep it safe and the boy was not seriously hurt."

Anyone with any information should call Lancashire Police on 101 quoting crime reference BB1203964.

People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Morecambe and Wise - a popular combination.

Hope the lads are ok and the perpetrators dealt with.

I too hope the lad is OK and the owl.

Just seems odd for a youngster to do that. I know they have birds of prey on display (not flying) in towns sometimes, but a kid walking round with an owl is almost asking for unwelcome attention.

Unwelcome attention

I enjoyed the R & M Kes spoof - their bird's more like a Kite than a Kestrel, though I think Kestrels are the only birds of prey that hover.

And the Fast Show Rambling Hiker sketch ... I bet you find it a hoot.

I have occasionally seen a young lad, about early twenties, walk along the Ince canal towpath with a bird on his arm.

Avoids temptation to ask if his bird caught anything.
