Am I the only one who thinks this wedding is way over the top and why the bloody hell should we pay for this wedding out of our taxes when the countries is on his arse.
All the doo gooders say we can't put flags out and other symbols for our country as offends our muslim friends yet every town is plastered with flags for this wedding, double standards.
Won't make St George's day a national holiday yet this wedding gets one, why couldn't they get married on a Saturday.

Sorry but I dont agree and most of what you read is media Sh*te..... I work on a daily basis with people from all walks of life and different backgrounds and many from overseas.... These benefits you keep shouting about are much harder
than you make out..... When we see large amount of people living in houses these are normally people placed at these addresses by the immigration office. Now the problem with that is families get torn apart for example a husband may be placed in a house with strangers in WIgan and his wife and kids in Liverpool.

From anyone on the outside it looks like one large happy family not a bunch of strangers from all backgrounds. Most get very little support.

I have no problems with anyone marrying and to be honest she looked stunning and they both played their parts and appear to really care for each other. However, my concerns are no matter how much this wedding brings in for the Country, there is probably the same amount if not more going out on the lavish events linked to this, not to mention the security which must have cost an arm and a leg. Although I am no accountant to balance the books so they say there needs to be a better profit than loss - and on this occasion I cannot see this is the case.

Pomp and splendour are fine if there is a bottomless pit to fund it. Realistically in this day and age, the shakey ecomonic situation in this Country, coupled with the increasing number of people losing their livelihoods, homes and in some cases resorting to living on the streets, we need to get more "balanced" priorities. In my view, a wedding of this calibre would be well down the list.

I cannot get my head around how someone with so much wealth (which she will never, ever spend) can be so oblivious and out of touch will ordinary people and their situations, not to mention the state of her Country.

we went out for the day. called in a cafe for some lunch, the tele was on full blast featuring the wedding . we walked out , they lost a sale. we never switched the tele on till 7 o clock and watched the last of the summer wine

Elizabeth, Charles & Mike.
The Queen paid the largets amount owing to its international, national and public interests.

Charles & Mike paid for the 300 wedding dinner guests - 50-50 split that Mike had insisted on (Father of the Bride).
He also paid for his family hotel costs.

Believe me if you did a poll and asked all foreign tourists why they were at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle, they would tell you "Hoping to get a glimpse of the Queen" more so than just looking at our history.

What about the cost to keep all the dignitaries and other guests in the top hotels,the security operation ,the closed streets.the barriers etc the scaffolding for the camera crews,the clean up afterwards and all the other endless costs of such a vast operationWho picks the tab up for all the hidden extras not the queen but joe public out of our taxes.Someone quoted 61pence per person goes to the queen times this by 60million not a bad years earning.Maybe someone will give us a true breakdown of how much everything did cost

I’ve just come back from London and found a message board about handbags!

London was incredible, an amazing atmosphere, not just Friday but the days leading up to it too. The whole of Westminster was one big party, you couldn’t move for ‘celebs’ and camera crews. My wife nearly got carted off by security for getting too close to Piers Morgan (of all people)!

Saw all ‘The Royals’ (and Princess Anne’s family in their minibus). The Mall was a once in a lifetime experience, and in the afternoon Hyde Park was fantastic. Glad I went now.

Bail out, that 100% correct.
However, its not a gift, its a loan that has to be paid back,
A) To the ECB.
B) Individual Countries that made loans to those countries that needed the bail out.

I'm from Wigan but have lived in Ireland for well over 40 years - I still hold my British Passport - that will not change.

The UK offered Ireland a 7 billion loan - that has not yet been taken up by Ireland - but now ask yourself why.

When the bubble burst, the man in the street wanted to BURN the Senior Bond Holders - in short that means - other countries that speculated on the Irish Markets would loose all of their investments.
The Irish man who also "invested in Irsh Bank shares" have lost out, their shares are worthless.
But Senior Bond Holders are protected - their investments are safe.
The ECB would not allow Ireland to BURN them.
IF that could have happened, the UK Banks would have lost a hell of a lot more than the 7 billion on offer.

The UK is not in the ECB, but all other EU countries are.

The UK can devalue its currency, those EU countries whose currency is the Euro - cannot devalue.
Thats what the loss of sovereignty really means, its nothing to do with having the "Queens" head on the coins - its all about no longer having the rights to run your country (financially) in the way that you want, or would like to.

IN Ireland, we have 15 years of austerity measures, during which time "those loans" will be paid back.

I receive a 26 euro phone allowance.
The OAP in Ireland is one of the highest in Europe and will not be touched.

I don't have the finer details of each member state, as you seem to have regarding Ireland, but you seem to be doing well with their system, as I am with the system in Australia. The OAP (widower) is 240 euros per week - that info is avialable on the government web site - as well as the "Household benefits" which gives those freebies as listed.

I should have clarified the phone bill.
Total cost 53 less 26 = actual cost to me 27 euro.
My accumulative/monthly average cost is 22 euro.

The price of a pint o tarmac (guinness) is 4.30 euro
and you usually order your next pint when your down 2/3rds of the glass - if you dont, you have to wait (your turn).

Diesel is 1.45 euro a litre I drive a 4x4
Road tax is 650 euro and Insurance is 490 euro.
Clothes are more expensive, so I buy in the UK.

At the moment, I'm waiting for the RL match on sky - Hull V St Helens.

Hi Billy, I agree with you re age being a state of mind, evey morning when I wake up I think, I've made it for another day, you never know when you are going to fall off the perch, so use the time that you have to make someone, happy, like the driver trying to get into the traffic from a left hand side street, I slow down and flash him In, and think that's made him feel happy, and in a better state of mind.
Also my hobby is magic, and it's a pleasure to see the look on someones face when I do an illusion. (I don't like calling them Tricks). I don't charge when I do a show for some old folks/retiement home.
Doing someone a good turn costs nothing, but makes you feel good.

i've only just come across this post but would still like to add my 2pennorth.
It depends which camp you fall into wehter you agree with the Royal wedding,Royalist or republican.
I for one am Royalist and thank God for them when the calibre of presidents is so obviuosly so bad.
I was in London the week before the wedding and it was jampacked with tourists and the shops were doing a bomb.
I've been to Paris and Rome and never seen such crowding in them as I did that week in London.
Film crews were already set up from around the world-they need food ,drink and lodgings.All these extra people drawn in contributes to the national cofers.

I agree with your post Vera - although I do think the Royals should contribute more.

I have a great deal of respect for Her Majesty - I don't think she has had a lot of choice in life (I know people will say she is very well kept and has the best of everything) but that woman has given herself to this country and she is still doing an amazing job at over 80 years of age.
