The News

I still switch-on the telly at the appropriate hour to catch The News.

Just found myself questioning this habit, given that there are rolling news channels, allegedly delivering the news 24/7.

Don't like Rupert Murdoch/Sky, so not gone for that option.

Found CBS News and Aljazeera too far removed from any relevant UK focus, so don't tune in to them.

That leaves the beeb, which in theory has 24/7 News channel.

That said, it is likely to have an hour long sports news running, or similarly 'Click' its IT related magazine programme. A couple of other similar feature programmes also displace the news, and recently interviews with so called celebs also push aside news content.

So my timely 'switch on to catch The News' is a habit which will continue.

Me too priscus! I don't have anything other than free view channels so not able to comment on any other news providers. In truth I prefer to listen to BBC radio 4 news type programmes. Early morning and late evenings are all that I need, the pictures are better too.

I can recall hearing the truth on 'Today', when ALL others (inc BBC TV News) lied about issues.

For breaking news, I find the 'NEWS' Metro App on Windows 10 very good as initial notification that something has happened.

The downside is it so often goes on to report Twitter and Facebook garbage that is getting posted about the event, so all too often is rambling on about fictions which have no bearing in reality.

I very rarely watch any news these days mainly because there are plenty of choices to select from, but one of my pet hates is the amount of people it takes to read it.

When you see them you have 1 person to read the news,then another either sex does not matter, then there is the weather person, then the sports reader it really is OTT for example on the beeb weekday's 6.30pm till 6.55pm a grand total of 25 minutes and it takes, 4/5 person's.

Next you will get a report and they go over to him/her to read 2/3 minutes at the most which could have been read by the 2 on the sofa. When one tallies up the number's you must be reaching over a week between 15/20 all on a cushy salary courtesy of the BEEBS ROBBERY FEE ( licence)
I just thought i would get this of my chest and i will be awaiting some flak , but hey it is just my opinion , have a nice day folk's.

fair Point Golden Bear but it's the same on sports programmes - football, rugby , athletics - all over staffed.

I don't watch any of the major news channels in the USA , to much sugar coated fake news.
I promised to look in on CNN once a year...

About 5yrs ago I looked in at the beginning of December, THE leading news headline.... " Pamela Anderson to play the Virgin Mary " in a one night performance show.... that did stretch the imagination a bit! Lol

I bet you will find it has deteriorated a lot in UK also since your time here. Too celebrity obsessed here also, but so too are our politicians.

Hello Kath: As i have said people have their own view's all i was wanting to do was to expose the amount of waste these stations carry. Do you know the most arguable gripe for me is when these "commentator's"do an interview say about strike's , people with what they feel are genuine grievance's they make it come across as though they should not fight for their rights ,also there are one or two them who sound very condescending. I often wonder how they would react if they were put in the same positition.For as far as i know no-one like 's to go on strike because until the dispute or whatever is settled invariably you lose some money,i know this from personal experiance. I bring this up in light of the train driver's action over losing an important person in my opinion and that is the PORTER, ON THIS ISSUE i am FULLY BEHIND THEM ,i know i'm repeating my cabbages but wanting to run train's with no porter is insanity. Finally if they lose and lose the porter then we should also get shut of some of these news readers on tv i mean all topics too .

One theory is don't watch any news and you will be much happier....no sneaky cheating views though...if you can help it
