Sorry,forgot to mention students union.saw Barclay james harvest,little feet,gravy train and others there.met and made friends,no trouble just lots of 'heads'having a great time.

I remember that great set from BJH. Bronco played there too and were excellent. Some interesting characters could be found there...
Custer, Chester, John Markey, Petal, Jim Brady, Kenny Young, etc.

I think BJH played twice? I remember the one time BJH apologising for having lost their stereo, but would make up for it by playing loud!

I well remember all the folk mentioned by Jr.also Dave bird and johnny ripoff.good times in the union and market hotel.

Yes, it was usually a pint in the Park, a couple in the Market then up to the students union.
Steve Galleazzi was part of the scene too. He later went djing in Scandinavia for a while.

The Students' Union (or Tech Club as we called it) was the best night out ever, nothing has surpassed it since for a small local venue, personally. I knocked about with Custer (Tony Meadows) and Toshack (Chris Ashcroft). I was called Dylan in those days. It was great to find myself in in a alternative society that I could personally identify with. Many big successful bands experienced thier apprenticeships in such venues.

I've not heard Steve galleazzi,custer and dylan names in nearly 50 years.I was saying to my son that I wish I had taken photos of people and places throughout my past.some of them deserve to be in the bin,but the others .......
Park hotel,Market,students union and careering through the plantations day and night.going home alone with no fear,although I looked different to the majority.great times,great music,great friends. Xx

I would love to see photos of those times. People didn't really take photos back then. There are a few of Bickershaw Festival - I think I saw myself on one... in the distance. But most hippies looked like me back then!!!
Custer is still knocking about and I occasionally bump into him. He started a Fantastic Film Society back in the early 70s and apparently it's still going. The last time I saw Toshack was at the Arthur Brown gig at 'The Mill at The Pier'... quite a while back.
Sadly (or not) a lot of the old crowd have died; some due to getting into heavy drugs.
The landlord of the Market (Colin Cook) always called everyone sir, regardless of if they were a businessman or Irish Navy (the latter frequented the pub every Friday night). Nice blokes.
