We just had a turnip and candle and apple dunking…again simple is best…nobody mentions the cost of living crisis when you see the supermarkets crammed with ridiculous costumes etc

We will carry on has normal and just not answer the door. Yet another time of year which has the American theme and everything goes overboard with it. I don't need a history lesson as how Halloween came about. It is a time for vandals to cause damage under the guise of Halloween

Can't remember which comedian said it but he said he hated Halloween, especially bobbing for chips!

Aw C'mon folks lighten up. We need cheering up and giving kids a few sweets and draping cob webs over your door or windows don't cost much, I used to hate it like most of you but, Its here to stay So now I embrace it put as smile on peoples face as I pop up behind a bush dressed as a skelington ,,

As Tonker says, Hallowe'en began here in England well hundreds of years ago, as a Celtic Pagan Festival.

The American version is Trick or Treat and it's there where devilment and mischief takes place, not to mention crime.

When my partner was still alive, we would join in with buying sweets for the kids, and look terrified when they came to the door in their "frightening" outfits.

However, one year when I was living alone, I answered the door, and truly was scared. There were three young men there, all bigger than me, and they were probably in their late teens. I slammed the door in their faces and I've never opened my door to anyone after dark since then, unless someone I know is expected.

GB last year on our travels after the event there where field full of pumpkins. Don't know if they can be used for feed for cattle/sheep but I think most would just be ploughed back into the ground

Bommy Neet has all but disappeared, with regulations, including planning permission for a bonfire, complying with health & safety regs, and liability insurance for public displays, and I bet the latest from the Woke brigade, will be that yoo have got to have a incloosive guy, a trans, homesexual guy from an ethnic minority

Where I live, it is so dark and spooky that kids would not venture here at night.

Come to think about it, not many adults would.

Thankfully no idiots setting fireworks off into the early hours. Just been reading that up to 14 million pumpkins will end up in the food waste bin

Well, as I mentioned in my earlier comment about why I don't open my door after dark nowadays but, last night, there were a couple of knocks on my door, which I ignored. Stupid thing I did though was order a takeaway for delivery so, when the driver came, I wasn't sure who or what I was opening my door to.

Then the knock was a bit louder, and I noticed stationary head lights on the road, so I opened the door and was greeted by my long-awaited grub! I won't do that again.

For the ones who turn the light off..... The rule of Halloween

Stick to well-lit areas in familiar neighbourhoods.
Visit the homes of people you know and who welcome trick-or-treaters.
Carry a torch and ensure your phone is charged.
Respect "no callers please" signs.
Wait until parents look at sweets before eating them.
Ensure masks allow clear vision and watch for traffic.
Avoid taking eggs or flour when leaving home.
Be cautious about leaving items for illegal bonfires.
Knock if a pumpkin is displayed on a doorstep.
Don'ts:

Don't go to unfamiliar or poorly lit places.
Don't visit houses of strangers or those who don't want callers.
Don't hinder visibility with masks.
Don't leave items that could fuel illegal fires outside.
Don't eat treats before adult inspection.
a lot of family's today belong to a What's App group so they know who is taking part in Halloween and who is not....
