Mondays with Milly Podcast (the Bush Inn)

Started by: phillcristofaro (3)

Hello All.

Phill from Melbourne, Australia here. I’m and avid fan of history and produce a weekly podcast with my 90 year old mother-in-law about her life in Manchester, Blackpool and Wigan from the 1930s onwards. It’s called Mondays with Milly. Anyone interested in listening can access the podcast via the links below. “Milly” ran the Bush Inn (Higher Ince) for two years during the mid-1960s. For those new to podcasts, they’re completely free (my podcast is ad-free).

I encourage you to listen to this important piece of social history and if you like what you hear, please share.

Season One, Episode #1:
Meet Milly

Bonus Episode (from Season Three):
Bushy Tales: Tales from the Bush Inn (Higher Ince)

Bonus Episode:
More Bushy Tales

It's the Bush Hotel, Billy Boston had it once along with many other landlords.

The only Bush pub I've heard of was in Ince, not Wigan. Unless, of course, there was another, in Wigan, what I don't know about ?

His 90 year old mother-in-law about her life in Boothstown (Manchester?), and Lytham (Blackpool?)

Awesome Jo Anne. I think I worked it out - I’d put parenthesis around the url. I hope you enjoyed the podcast. Cheers.

I’ve got the book, Walks Around Wonderful Wigan by Cliff Peters (Link)

The Bush features in Walk 4 ‘Flashes, Locks and Rugby Clubs’:

The tree-lined path is another recent addition to the Wigan network, and it soon crosses Belle Green Lane at the former Bush Hotel (once run by the famous Billy Boston).

The pub is now an Indian restaurant

But there are still clues to its original name.
