Catalogue shop

Does anyone remember the name of the catalogue shop that was in the same row as C & A and you went down the stairs to it?

Great memories of my Gran treating me to M.A.S.K. themed Wham bars from there as a kid.
Their vast toy section, over on the right hand side as you descended the stairs, stocked some highly sought after obscurities. Highlights I can recall include the 'Madballs Mad Rollercycle' and the 'Heathcliff Jumbo Jet Home'.

I remember Parker Franks discount store always smelled of damp they had a few stores around and was owned by Philip Green who bought BHS for £200m and sold it for a quid.

Anyone any idea what was the name of the Apron shop down Wallgate under the railway bridge? It might of been called Discount Daises but i'm not sure.

No Mick. Mum used to get aprons from there but even she can't remember what it was called. I think they made various work related items. Just remembered it was called Betty Bows.

I'm wondering why this thread has been resurrected after seven years, especially when the original poster never came back to read replies from Joseph and Anne.

I liked Parker Franks which was indeed in a basement but I don't remember it being a catalogue shop. The only catalogue shop I can remember down Standishgate was the Green Shield Redemption Shop which was opposite C&A, not on the same row.

I don't suppose it matters now though.

Mollie m. I was reading through the older posts and came across this one and the Parker Franks name jogged a memory for me so I posted on it. I often read the older and funnier threads from years ago,it gives you an insight in some members and their traits, seems they were more content and happier times a few years ago on WW, one or two bust ups but nothing like there is now.

They never called them Aprons in Wigan unless yoo were posh, like Mick says they were called Pinnys me mam had a pinny, in fact she had several, and in the 1960s all mums wore head scarfs when they went out, to keep all the smook and muck out of their hair, and in the house they wore a pinny all the time, and they kept their cigs and matches in the pockets of the pinny
