i forgot solicitors, reminded me of this story, my best mate moved away from us circa 1969/70 into his own home.the solicitor charged him £120 for the move when he read the breakdown he was charged £12 ten shillings for stamps.
at the time a stamp was 3d which meant 80 stamps to the pound ,equalled 1000 of them.the bill also stipulated £7 ten bob in stationery.at the time he was on £20 a week, furious he asked to see the solicitor for an explanation.he was met by a calm serenity from the man who said he agreed it may be a little over the top,to which my friend replied .he wanted a complete breakdown of everything they had done in the conveyance or he was'nt paying a penny, not unexpectedly the bill was very much reduced.how many others had been ripped off and never questioned this gang of thieves.
