At a time when trafford's captain and his "has been" club are in the headlines across the world for all the wrong reasons, City are in the worldwide headlines being linked with the greatest football player the world has ever seen.

Whether City manage to do the Premier League an enormous favour by bringing him to these shores or not is irrelevant, the world is aware of the completely different directions these clubs have been heading in for quite a few years now and this just shines a spotlight on it.

Whether trafford's captain is cleared or not (which I hope he is), the publicity is very, very damaging.
