Coming up to 100yrs since my grandad, someone I never knew, was killed in a roof fall in the above pit. He was a timber man it happened on the Friday inquest returned a verdict of misadventure on the following Monday being the risk of the job. Clearly a lengthy investigation.
His service in the mines rescue team counted for nothing no mention being made either by the mine owner or the Dep Coroner..
Thankfully those days are no more.
