when i joined the firm in 1964 it just down chapel lane just over the canal bridge.
the machine shop was on the left hand side and the assembly shop was with the upholstery shop over the road
all the timber was unloaded on the left hand side and this was overseen by jack Roscoe with the help of a chap called roy underwood
it was then cut to size and if necessary was put in a kiln to dry out by a chap called Marshall Hatton
it was then cut to shape and the finoshed product was sent over the road to the assembly shop where it was all glued and put together then off to the spray shop and then to the upholstry shop before being shipped out to where ever
i think in the early 70s we all moved en bloc to the old eckersley mill and i think it was there that we joined up with the Len group from down south, hence aquiring the name Foster - Len
we were taken over by the silent night group before closing in 1980 when most were made redundant except for a few who broke away under mike littlehales and jimmy gibson who carried on making furniture in the eckersley mill
when i joined the firmin 1964 it was ran by old Mr. Foster before his son Kevin took the firm on. I always remeber him walking round in a white coat i cant remember his son Andrew ever being involved in the company
