Places   (Help with places, streets and buildings in Wigan.)

Started by: ashtonman01 (213)

Just a note first that I'm not in the least bit interested in VE Day for reasons I don't have the energy to explain. However, I just want to know if anyone around that time remembers anyone setting out tables in their street and on fields. The reason I ask is because I have two old photos that were my grans that show a large group of people sat down at a long table outside, which I assume was taken in 1945 at the end of the second of world war.

These photos were taken just off York Rd in Ashton on the spare bit of grassland that has a fence around as you're heading towards Ashton Heath from the centre. In the background you can see the row of houses (not sure if they're terraced) which I believe are still standing. I scanned them in before my gran died a few years ago, but the originals are with my auntie as far as I'm aware. All I can think those people are sat at the those tables was for the end of the war.
