Priscus The FSV's(free steered vehicles) were used to take supplies into various tunnels for the Crombrouke seam via the Florida Shunt. They were also used to transport Hydraulic Chocks onto the coal face. Two Fsv's had flat bed fronts Another one had a low sided flat bed which could be changed for a small digging bucket which had a hydraulic side unloading conveyor in the bottom and another was fitted with a large digging bucket again with a side unloading conveyor. These m/c's did away with the conventional haulage. No haulage engines and ropes No tubs or mine cars, Instead of separate arches struts plates and mesh covering a pack of 5 arches with every thing bundled and strapped were made up on the surface called a Pod and sent underground and transported to the Florida Shunt. These were then transfered onto a very large haulage system using air hoists. They were then transported to the FSV garage were they could be unloaded straight onto a FSV or put onto the floor to wait for a FSV again using air hoists
