They used to doo a lot of clog fighting in Scholes, and these clog fighters used to have jobs as horse handlers, because in those days, folk would own a horse, the same way that folk own cars now, so the equivalent a car mechanic today, would be a horse handler back then, so a problem was how to make a horse behave, nowadays they refer to making a horse behave and become compliant by 'breaking it in' now I don't know what they called the process back then, but the way they used to do it, was that these hard men would strip off naked, and then they would kick these horses up and down Scholes, and that is where clog fighting came from, two naked men, with only their clogs on, would hold each other's arms, and they would kick each other in the shins.
