There was a time when assembling PCs was almost a cottage industry, with quite a network of suppliers of parts and requisites.

The mainstream suppliers will now sell you a PC for far less than you would spend on a DIY job.

I still do assemble my own. It is an expensive indulgence, I have to admit. Do not recommend anyone to follow suit.

Also increasingly fewer home PCs are desktops, but tablets and laptops: people do produce homebrew portables, but fewer, and it is more challenging.
