I guess 'The Engineer's Song' needs updating.
Nowadays:

They're likely made in China,
made from silicon
powered by 'USB' rechargeable Li-ion cells
options incl. Bluetooth controls
Lifetime guarantee
etc etc

And openly offered on shelves in Tesco for less than you will pay for a chippy tea.

Now THAT'S Engineering!
