Bringing up a baby is hard, TomP, and someone’s bygone experience doesn’t diminish the difficulties of today’s new mums.

The caller was a baby in WW2, so when she herself was a new mum she may well have had the support of her own mum and other family, friends and neighbours, and without the backdrop of a world war or pandemic. New mums today tend to be more isolated anyway, and with Covid-19 restrictions probably more so than ever.
