I thought a deserter was someone who deserted his post in time of need. As you have correctly pointed out, you just left your post and returned when it suited you. My apologies, you have the experience and length of time served to advocate young men and women dying for your rebel yell

P.S. Will any of you grandchildren be put in the firing line ?
