But where do you stop with such a line of argument?

Supermarkets per se have put out of work a whole cadre of people who had been employed in the small shops which they have replaced. Butchers, bakers, fishmongers..... skilled artisan tradesmen (and women) no longer able to pursue their chosen occupation.

Shops per se, also in their turn had led to decline in Town and village markets and itinerant traders. etc etc
