I wonder how much coal it burned to power two million homes.
I know that in its day, it was supplied by the 'merry-go-round' trains from Bickershaw, and had also played its part in keeping the Woodhead tunnel open beyond ceasing of passenger services, when coaled from Yorkshire mines.
I guess it outlasted its neighbours in part because of being better positioned to burn imported fuel.
