General (General discussion, talk about anything.)
It's the same old story, 'not in my backyard'. Development of housing has to take place somewhere, why not there? It's a 'brownfield site', not open greenbelt land, so nothing will change. It will remain developed, like it has been for 100 years (john46). When Shevington was first developed, the original residents probably complained, then, with each development, each bunch of new residents join in with the 'saying no to development', so, eventually, the new residents of Roberite site will also join in to 'say no' to further developments and so it goes on. Winstanley is a prime example. At each of Winstanleys development phases the notices have been in the windows of the previous one, 'Say NO to further development in Winstanley' and 'Save our green space'.
Like I said, not in my backyard!
Industrial/commercial development is another matter. You don't have houses standing empty like you do industrial units, yet they want to build more units onto greenbelt/agricultural land in Ashton.
SO, there's an idea! Why not build industrial units on the Roberite site (brownfield) instead of the Ashton site (greenbelt/agricultural)?
