Under the present 'first past the post' voting system, a political party needs to be getting about 20% of the vote before they start winning seats in parliament, so in a general election if 19% of the public vote for a political party, they get no seats in parliament, but as in the 2019 general election the Conservatives got 43.6% of the vote, which gave them 365 seats with an 80 seat majority.

That cannot be right.
