General (General discussion, talk about anything.)
Not a tennis fan.
Did not go see when it was on my doorstep (Wimbledon).
Also lived in Didsbury for a few years, Northern Lawn Tennis place only two mins from my doorstep: did not go there either.
As regards London:
Yes, If I visit (did in 80's and 90's, but not in last two decades), find it dirty and crowded, agree with bentlegs' comment, I am not attracted to go live there again.
However, when I did live there, my experience was quite different.
I recall my father visiting, and complaining that everyone in London was a commuter. He seemed blind to the fact that he travelled by car from Ashton to Haydock every day to his place of work, whereas my place of work was but a five minute walk from my doorstep.
Open Green Space: on my doorstep I had Putney Heath, Roehampton Vale, Wimbledon Common and Richmond park. I could walk for days enjoying a wealth of flora and fauna, without ever retracing my footsteps. I often compare that with my life in rural Lincolnshire, where I was surrounded by open countryside, but it was intensively farmed, with no public access. Even taking the dog for a walk meant driving into town to walk in the park, or a trip to the beach.
I could go on, but suffice to say, my quality of life in London was good. But luck was on my side, I have to admit, I know many did not enjoy the same privileges.
