The new hospital you referred to was to be built in the Hindley area on the A58. It was intended to replace both Wigan and Leigh Infirmaries. A public consultation gave it the thumbs down.
The late Brian Strett when chair of WWL tried to get the Council to permit hospital parking on the Haigh Hall tractor car park at the Wigan Lane end.
The decision to make Spencer Road residents only parking deprived the hospital of a convenient parking area. You rarely see any residents cars parked on the Wigan Lane end of Spencer road.
