Whups GPs surgeries are not state assets they belong to GPs or landlords who rent them. The only NHS state assets sold are land and redundant hospitals and other buildings.
In Wigan the closure of Billinge and Whelley hospitals raised around £40 million from the land sales. The money funded the Phase 4 extension at the Royal Albert, which includes A and E , diagnostics, maternity, cardiac catheter lab and other departments. A significant part of the cash was ploughed into primary care, Wrightington hospital and other projects.
Overall a good result for the people of Wigan and surrounding areas.
The Treasury is currently examining the duplication of very highly paid positions in the different organisations covered by NHS England.
