Dougie you comments sound like they have been written with the help of some rejects.
If you dont believe me, go and ask a stone mason is it recommended to scrub old gravestones and he will say no just leave them as they are because when the lettering is being chiseled out it weakens the masonry and you get little invisible cracks which in time will cause pieces of stone to breakaway, thats why the lettering is hard to see on some old ones.
If you and you mates want to tidy the place up just cut back the bushes and do the weeding.
