Wigan pub

Started by: greenveg (3)

Hi,
Does anyone remember the name of the pub in Stanishgate in the 1970's. The pub is still there, with a new name. If I remember, it was on the same side as the old C&A store, going towards Standish. It was popular with Wigan Warriors fans, there were many photos of past Wigan teams, Great Britain teams etc.

Would it have been the Roebuck, now McDonald's?

I don't think it was called the Roebuck. The pub is further along, cloes to the Chinese buffet.

I think you might be on about the Dog i'th'Thatch, greenveg, although it's not there any more! We always used to call in there on our way to Central Park. Great pub, great atmosphere! Or possibly The White Horse - that's still a pub.

Dog i'th Thatch, that's the one. I said to my friends it was something like Dog and Partridge. One of them mentioned The White Horse, but I think that one came after the Dog i'th Thatch.

The pub that is still there is now called Hartleys Emporium. The Dog ith Thatch was near the corner going down to Central Park and to me was the best pub on any match day. I turned up one day and it was just a pile of rubble with many of the internal fittings just being broken up.This was well before the days of Wigan Warriors .The Park Hotel had the an excellent set of rugby league photos on the walls. The Dog and Partridge is up near the post office.
