Hello Baker Boy:: Don't know if you knew or not when i was around 8-16 i lived on the "new" estate ST Paul's Avenue ,off by Walpole ave. Well today all those streets on the left side heading into Wigan ,from the Bold pub and there were
several streets ( california ) being one of many. Now today it appears as if they are all going to make a come-back.

All the area has had all the tree's lopped down and flattened, and looks like new homes are going to be built there. I do not know if they are to be private or council property .

California St was a rat infested hole, I rented a house for a short time there, my wife was having her first baby and was advised by my doctor to find somewhere better to live "this is not a place to bring a new born into the world" he said.
Found our kitten playing with something under the kitchen sink one day, it was entertaining itself with a cockroach

The toilet was at the bottom of the yard, better to take a torch to check for rats before using it!

Distant memories of early married days that are still very vivid!

Needless to say, it encouraged us to buy our first house only a few weeks later, heeding the doctors advise.
