Didn't they shoot a world war one Battle of the Somme depiction at Ince Moss pit tips quite a long time ago?

Wasn't the Ince Moss film something to do with Russia, either the Revolution but perhaps a composer. I think Geoff Shryhane of the Observer was an extra.

Going back to the early 1970's there was a series on telly called 'Sam' about a mining family and they filmed some of the scenes at Garswood Railway Station, I know that because I saw them doing it

That television series from the early 1970's I mentioned 'Sam' I never actually watched it

Best films for using Wigan as a location, in my opinion are

'Liam' filmed in Higher Ince

And

'Holy Cross' filmed in Worsley Hall

And

'Legless' filmed in King Street & Wallgate

BBC filmed The Somme on the land behind the former Amberswood Common refuse site. It was a boiling hot day and the BBC used huge water jets to create a muddy scene and the illusion of rain. Together with Geoffrey Shryhane from the Observer I watched some of the battle scenes from a nearby 'bomb hole'.
