Season over for Gareth Hock
Gareth Hock was today suspended for 5 matches and fined £300. Sounds about right.

£300?!!
It's a meal in guiseppes for him and a night down king street!!
Any repeat and he should get a seasons ban.
Didn't madge say there was nothing in it?
Replied: 6th Sep 2011 at 20:02
I agree Jay £300 fine doesnt sound much but he will probably loose five times that amount in match fees.

the following extracts from the hearing make interesting reading:
Summary of Player’s submissions on the Charge / evidence:
Player accompanied by Assistant Head coach Shaun Wane. Assistant coach believes this was totally out of character for Gareth Hock. Furthermore the player has been out of the game for two years and is still adapting to his re-entry into the game.
Reasons for Decision:
The Committee accept that the action was not a deliberate attempt to gouge the opponents eyes. However the committee feel that the the player had no justifiable reason to place his hands in his opponents face. The panel believe the player's actions were reckless and contact was certainly made with the eyes of the opponent. The committee are of the opinion that this had the potential to cause serious injury to the opponent. The panel add that you needlessly struck your opponent after the initial incident. Whilst the committee take into account the guilty plea, they believe that a 4 match suspension for reckless gouging and a 1 match suspension for striking is in order.
Suspension:
5 matches (4 for Gouging and 1 for Striking)
Fine:
£300
Two things strike me about the above:
i) If it was not a ‘deliberate attempt to gouge’ – does that not mean not guilty?
ii) next time you go to court......take Shaun Wane!!
Personally, having watched the incident on a number of occasions, I feel the ban is about right – don’t think we will see him presenting trophies at any junior clubs end of season presentations though – after all would you parade him as a role model?

Think the RFL have been lenient to be honest. No excuse for what he did and I doubt whether Wigan Rugby will tolerate much more off him

I find it a bit rich for any Latic's supporter to talk about role models when they had a player who went to jail for beating up women.
Replied: 7th Sep 2011 at 16:15
when he was found guilty latics then terminated his contract, which i think was the right decision on the clubs part don't you ruddy
Replied: 7th Sep 2011 at 16:37
A big difference between being jailed for beating up women and being suspended for committing a foul offence in a game.
Suggest that all those having a swipe at Hock and the Warriors have a look at the case and judgement on the RFL website.

terrible what happend there tom,
Replied: 7th Sep 2011 at 18:24
Whilst I have very sympathy for the fan who died I don't think it was just a random attack according to the press. He had quite a bit of form for football violence related incidents. Maybe it was pay back time.

david, the king saga is very old news, yes Latics were right to sack him, but, it was asked at the time why did they sign a criminal like him with a record as long as your arm in the first place that question was never answered by any Latics supporters on here, why was that?
Replied: 8th Sep 2011 at 02:35
simple answer he'd served his time for offences he'd been found guilty of
Replied: 8th Sep 2011 at 07:57
have i said anywhere that hock has not served his sentence and now after completing the sentence he has rightly been allowed to resume playing
Replied: 8th Sep 2011 at 13:03
the warriors have made a lot of wigan people happy and proud and put wigan on the sporting map for all the right reasons and now hock is spoiling all that
the warriors have brought silverware to the town and thats what people should be talking about
