City's massive fail

Started by: eddie7457 (1594)

Very good of the money bags club to re-name their stadium after their local rivals. City will now play their home games at the 'United' stadium.
Etihad is Arabic for United.
Idiots!

Wish I had been doing extra hoirs in the chippy, instead I had a five day hospital stay in North Manchester General turn into a seven week stay! Etihad does mean united and not unity, google is always right.

Yusuf Bagail, from the Alfikr Arabic School at the Yemeni Community Association in Salford, said: "It does mean 'united' in Arabic. It means, literally, 'united'."

Etihad is the Arabic abbreviation for الإمارات العربية المتحدة – United Arab Emirates

We have known about this, and have been mocking the city fans with it, for two seasons now.

Cheers fireplace, i won't be getting involved in any falling out in future, lifes too short. I had my Liverpool scarf hanging over my bed for seven weeks so I never walked alone. While in there I recieved personally signed photos from Steven Gerrard and Andy Carroll, they are now framed and on display in my computer room. There were actually more City fans than united on the ward I was on, I think they were all suffering from shock because they had won something! Lol...

Typical saddo, more concerned about other teams than your own,
bet you can't help noseying over your neighbours fence? (presuming they didn't do one the day after you moved in)

Nothing against the "terrific Latics" but you can't tell me they haven't bought their way into the Premiership, or would they have been there without uncle Daves help? Only thing I can smell is your Bullsh#t.

when we where in the championship, many clubs spent far more than latics did. dave whelan,s and his manager,s, guile and good business sense got us to the prem.we got up on a shoestring.

Would they have even been in the Championship without uncle Dave? Me thinks not, more chance of being non league by now.

The guys admitted pumping the thick end of £100 million
into the club,(plenty guile their) which he is going to have to write off.
Any Latics fan who claims United have bought the title 19 times and can't see the irony of his statement is obviously barking (woof, woof, woof)!

Wigan Athletic finished in second place in the Northern Premier League in the 1977/78 season, behind winners Boston United. But as Boston's ground and facilities did not meet the Football League criteria for a League club, whereas Springfield Park did, Wigan Athletic were put forward for election to the league. There was no automatic promotion to the Football League until 1987, and at that time a club had to be 'voted out' of the League to allow a non-league team to be promoted in their place. At the end of the 1977/78 season, Southport finished next to bottom of the old Fourth Division, and faced off with Wigan Athletic for their place in the League. The first round of voting was tied, with both clubs receiving 26 votes. After a tense re-vote which Wigan controversially won 29–20, Southport lost their place in the Fourth Division and Wigan Athletic became an English League club on 2 June 1978..

Your comment is incorrect as when the Latic's were in the championship, Whelan was buying players which other clubs could not afford. In fact at the time, Oldham Athletic was doing better then the latic's for most of the season. However, by the end of the season they ended up in mid table as a result of having to sell their best players to ease a bad financial situation.

Having said the above, you only have to look at many of the clubs in the Premiership, where the new owners don't care what they spend in order to buy success.

The problem for Whelan is that he is no longer one of the richest men in the Premiership like he was when the Latic's did well in getting promoted.

My apologies.

It was in the 2002/3 Second Division season when the Latic's won the Championship and Oldham finished 5th.

When time goes by so quick, you lose track.

I'll grant you the ''good business sense'', because, more's the pity, its only about making money to some; but
in fact the season or so before promotion to the Prem , Whelan was paying 182% of the club's income on players' wages . Some shoestring.
