No doubt heralded as 'Brave Andy' in tomorrows 'Scotsman'
He wants our support but cheers for whoever is playing England when he's off the court.

The lads the 4 best player in the world. He has missed out again, but 2 of the best players that ever played the game are in his era, He may never win a grand slam but is the best tennis player we have produced since Stockports Fred Perry.

Have you ever stopped to think how much revenue Andy Murray brings into the country - and how much tax he and his family pay. He was joking re: the England match

peawapp - now I can agree with you as regards David Haye - he has been spouting bile and shown no respect as an Englishman should - he's an embarrassment

Proportionally, the same as anyone else I suspect.
He said he was joking after his manager told him to say it.

His manager never told him anything - knowing that Scotland were out of the World Cup - the interviewer asked 'Who will you be supporting?' Murray's reply was - 'anyone but England ha,ha'.

Proportionally the same as everyone else? As a millionaire, several times over and resident in the UK - my bet is he pays more than your average Joe - ie the higher rate of tax.

Andy Murray is the only player to bow at the Royal Box (something I don't agree with) but you overlook this just because of a throwaway comment jumped on by journalists?

saintpat - this is because he needs to train in Miami - all Europeans players do - they need to train in the heat to prepare for all championships. Whatever the details - the guy does not hate the English

He likes a joke, and many things he says are taken out of context.

In 2006 Murray caused an uproar during a match between him and Kenneth Carlsen. Murray was first given a warning for racket abuse then he stated that he and Carlsen had "played like women" during the first set.[209] Murray was heavily booed for the remainder of the interview, but explained later that the comment was in jest to what Svetlana Kuznetsova had said at the Hopman Cup.[210] A few months later Murray was fined $2,500 for swearing at the umpire during a Davis Cup doubles rubber with Serbia and Montenegro. Murray refused to shake hands with the umpire at the end of the match.[211]

In 2007 Murray suggested that tennis had a match fixing problem, stating that everyone knows it goes on,[212] in the wake of the investigation surrounding Nikolay Davydenko.[213] Both Davydenko and Rafael Nadal questioned his comments, but Murray responded that his words had been taken out of context.[214]

In 2008 Murray withdrew from a Davis Cup tie, leading his brother to question his heart for the competition.[215]
