Cup final day - what went wrong

Started by: i-spy (15265)

it used to be the big day of football's year, the last match of the season, it was on the telly from Saturday morning til Saturday night. To a kid's eyes (mine) it was magic.
Now its a bit part, having to share its day with Premier League matches.
I cant help feeling that football's the loser.
ps for old time's sake, Stoke to beat the moneybags.

From what I understnd, it is because of the Champions League Final being played at Wembley at would have been the same.

What I do not understand is why four Premiership games are being played today and not tomorrow like the rest.

I used to look forward to the FA cup final, It was the last match of the season and no other games were played on the big day.
Now it seems the Premier League couldn't care less about other competitions, as long as they're ok.

winder.

I think you will find that next season, it will be back to being the last match of the season.

I think a lot of people have grown up watching the FA cup, and the FA cup quiz the night before, settling down around 1.00 o'clock and watching the build up.

Its not the same now and it will be worse when they move it to a 5.15pm K.O

the FA arent bothered about messing the fans about or about the traditions of the cup ,a prime example being their insistence that the semis are also played at their over budget "showpiece".they need to recoup their money

Whatton is correct. The FA Cup Final will be played on a saturday along with other Premiership games next year.

I stand corrected, but it still does not explain why some Premiership games need to be played on the Saturday when the FA Cup Final is being played.

Surely all the Premiership games should be on a Sunday or is that to hard for the Premiership to organise?

When are we going to get a decent FA Cup Final?

It was nearly as bad as that one sided semi

Correct, and I still cannot understand why the Wanderers played so bad on the day.

At least, they tried to keep two local derbie's alive with the two defeats against Blackburn and Blackpool.

Looks like United did likewise at Blackburn by justing getting the one point to win the Premiership and giving Blackburn a point to help them to stay up.

And they say the game is not corrupt!
