Kinane?

Looking for my nans side of the family

Jake,my Grandma was a Kinnane but she passed away in the 1950's...and came from County Clare Ireland.

Where did she live in Wigan? Any names?

Jake, I have tried, twice, to post this on your old family photo on ALBUM. Unfortunately, it depends what side of t'bed Admin. has got out of and, sometimes, it's like trying to hammer a panel pin through a knot.

No.

Although there was a bloke at Parkside Colliery named Jimmy Dawber and I knew him.
And there was Mike Dawber, who was a professional rugby referee. I knew him too.

But, there was a family of Kinanes in Haydock. They lived at number 248, Clipsley Lane, Haydock. Old Mrs Kinane had two sons (I imagine both are dead now). They were Tommy Kinane, window cleaner and Jackie Kinane, I think worked at Co-op. She also had a grandson called Michael Kinane, he'll be around 60 now.
There could be a connection there?

Maybe Tonker, Mick and Ethel Kinane lived on Duke St they had a number of children; Richard Speakman (stepson of mick) Michael, Jimmy, John who everyone called Jack, Mary, Hilda, Sheila and Annie

They lived around Goose Green later on. Mick actually lost a leg and was in a wheel chair.

Jake , not sure exactly how much you do know of your gt. grandparents , I have a index here at home that gives a lot of Catholic church marriages , and I can tell you that Michael and Ethel were married on the 28th July 1928 at St. Josephs Church, I will take a look the original church entry next week when I go to the museum and see who is father was , but I am pretty sure it was Patrick, and if I am right Patrick was born in Wigan in 1860

Yes JAMB my gt grandma Ethel already had a son (Richard Speakman) then met Michael Kinane son of Patrick.

Jake , it sounds like you have researched your past descendants and are looking for living relatives , I would look at the electoral registers and try to get in touch with them that way, I know one of Michaels daughters married a lad I worked with many years ago and he and I share the same cousin although I am not related to him
as you will have seen from your research the name Kinane can be spelled many different ways I have found at least 7 different ways and that does not include census records, and Patricks age given at the time of his death is about 10 years out?

This thread is very strange,as I have already quoted earlier on..my Irish Grandma was a Kinnane,her and my Grandad belonged to St Josephs church and were married there..plus she had a son named Patrick who also died at around ten years old..I've seen the photo of him and my Dad at their (first communion I think it was )..my Dad was the only child that survived out of six children ..all due to Tuberculosis... in the past I've tried to find more,it's just a pity that children don't realise the importance of their heritage and ask questions while they still had their grandparents..a great pity.

Her brothers Jimmy Jack Michael, Richard (Speakman)
Her sisters Hilda Sheila Annie

If your grandmother was Ellen Kinane and her father was James , then I do believe you and Jake are from the same Kinane family, the only exception I can see is that Ellen was born in Wigan , but her parents I believe were born in County Clare? I believe Ellen and the Patrick I mentioned were brother and sister, Ellen was one of 7 or 8 children?

Thank you JAMB, my grandmas name was Ellen but am not sure what her dads name was..I've been told before that she was born in Wigan but she had the strongest Irish accent that I ever heard,all I can think is shortly after she was born she was then taken to County Clare and the they came back to this country.i used to go on the reel to reel at the library long before the internet came along so here is the info I have.

Grandma born1874
Married 29th July1873
My dad born the only one to survive 1911.
Grandad buried6 Jan 1956
Grandma 4 August 1957.

Bridget wife,
Ellen daughter aged 17,cotton spinner,Mary Ellen daughter aged 6,scholar,Patrick son,Ann d-in Law aged 21 Mary Ellen aged 6 scholar.
John grandson aged 5 Samuel aged 8 months.

My grandmother was called Ethel Kinane (spelt with one N)
I don't think we are related, I still have Kinane family and I've never heard of Ellen or ever seen it spelt it Kinnane

When Patrick was married his name was spelt KANNINE and when Ellen was married it was spelt KINAHAN
I am surprised you havent seen the spelling KINNANE, go to the Cemetery index and find your gt. uncles grave then click on the grave number H312 you will see all people buried in that grave , one is Samuel KINNANE he was your Gt. Grandfathers brother
