Critchley of Ashton in Makerfield

Started by: ttwood49 (11)

I am attempting to locate any descendants of Robert Critchley who was from Ashton in Makerfield. In 1911 he was married with 5 children living on Violet St. in Ashton. The sons were Robert age 19, William age 15 and Percy age 10 and the two girls were Mary Ann age 18 and Alice Ann age 6.

I know that William married Angelina Smith in 1919 and Mary Ann may have married Oswald Topping in 1914. I believe Alice Ann died in 1918 at age 14 and Robert died in 1928 age 37.

I am descended from Robert’s parents Richard and Margaret (Speakman) Critchley and would like to make contact with live descendants.

I know of two lines of Critchleys in Haydock. James (Jimmy) Critchley, who was a fitter at Parkside Cilliery, and Stella Critchley, cousin to James. It's common for families to be in both places.

The other Critchley was Ian Critchley, an electrician at Bold and then Parkside and, looking at your photograph, I'd put my money on you being 'one of them' !

I think that Percy Critchley from the family that I am interested in , died somewhere around Haydock in 1959.

It would be great if one of the Critchley’s that you mention was descended from him. But how could I find that out? Do you know of a way to contact them? I am in the US.
