Dunbar Street, Manchester.
I am doing my family history, and have tracked some back to Dunbar Street, Manchester, in an 1883 voting record. I’ve tried several search tactics on the internet, but cannot get a hit. Dunbar Avenue comes up, but not Dunbar Street. Before I try further, does anyone on the site know the location of this Street in the 1800s ?

I have looked addresses up on Find my Past and there is only one record for 1861 for a Dunbar Street in Manchester.

It was in St John’s ward that included central station.

I know it's nothing to do with Hilly's request for information but, Gaffer, why does a "Manchester Municipal Wards Map 1927" include Salford? It's a bit like including all Wigan Borough Wards in a "St.Helens Municipal Wards Map". It's Daft!

It may well be that Manchester has always been known globally because of its cotton goods exports, whereas Salford has always had a low profile. Bed sheeting is still referred to as Manchester sheeting in India.
Manchester docks, Manchester Racecourse and Exchange station were all in Salford. Broughton, an integral part of Salford for generations is geographically in Manchester.
I worked in Manchester for 15 years and never heard any Salfordian take offence if you asked them which part of Manchester they were from.

".... never heard any Salfordian take offence if you asked them which part of Manchester they were from".
I'm entirely the opposite on that one. The Salford lads I've known in the past were fiercely territorial.
For me, there's right and wrong and Salford has never been Manchester. Also, Salford used to be a far more important place than Manchester. Manchester has never had a "hundred" like Salford had. Anyroadup, we all know that many people consider the two cities to be the same place (Manchester), but an official map should be correct and factual.
