"Back in 2018, Timepix embarked on digitising a collection of 46,000 previously unseen street photos of Greater Manchester, England, in the post World War 2 decade. "Each photo is mapped and tagged with keywords, including any surnames, making them a valuable extra resource for genealogists with an interest in Manchester and Wigan. The photographs were originally taken by Ordnance Survey for map-making purposes and feature a man with a board and arrow, but many houses, shops, children and passers-by are caught in the images which often number up to 100 photos per square km. The site is now expanding into Carte-de-visite and postcards."

It's quite cheering when you get to see locals included rather than just the OS man quietly (if rather spookily) doing his job).

Interesting photos, pity about the watermark, do we need copyright on those photos?.

I would just like to bring to your attention Wigan Streets on this site, going back to around 2003 Brian the founder of this site had a vision of uploading every street in photos "long before Google started " he made it, so we on WW could help him by go out taking photos of any street to upload HE got 98% of the streets uploaded for the future,
--Here on this link-- for a time it was used by Estate agents to show people the area they were looking to buy a house, years later Google came along with big money to do the same thing, yes better as you see on Google Streets

Yes Dougie I remember that, if you look at Appley Bridge, Shevington and Standish you will see that a lot of the photos where taken by the same person, who went round on his bike snapping away, when he was off work.
