Haunted house in Abbey Lakes
Someone I know today told me an interesting story about a derelict old house in Abbey Lakes. House was situated opposite the Indian restaurant and said an elderley person lived there and it was reputedly haunted by said occupant. I remember something about a piano falling through the floor or something like that. What caught my interest was when he mentioned there were two Rolls Royces that were found there. No idea what model but seemed to think they were from the 1940s.
I get the feeling this is well known around the area?.

Lots of stories about this house and it's inhabitants when I was growing up - 1950's & 1960's.

If you look on Google street view you will see the newly built detached house that replaced the original number 286. Spencer’s Lane runs alongside the house.

It wasnt haunted, just had two funny people living there, I went two times with my Orrell workmates.
Story was there mother and dad died and brother and sister went funny never went out again.
I remember peeping through the windows but didnt see them, but could see stuff had been moved on the table , in the broken down garage was a old rusty MG type of sports car.
The Sunday papers did a story on them around this time, and said that the grocery's got delivered from the shop which is now the florist at Orrell lights.

It was known as the Hermits house, and Fat Mick has the gist of the story. They were Brother and Sister, and everything they needed was delivered to the front door from local shops and milk men. They were quite harmless, and only wished to be left alone (very difficult sometimes with local children and teenagers). They could sometimes be seen in the garden at night, which I suppose was the only fresh air they ever got. The story's about what was found after their deaths, became bigger and bigger as time went on.

If you download Google maps and open it. Type 286 Orrell Road, Wigan in the search box.
In the bottom LH corner of the screen you will see a small image. Click on it and it will open street view. The house in question will then appear on the screen.

I do remember the person that told me about the house mentioned Hermits. No idea why he thought there were Rolls Royces in the garage rather than MGs, but maybe it's because they looked like they were vintage looking.
Is this the present house in question?:

Blimey! 400k for that, just ridiculous. Who the hell can afford to live in Orrell as I've noticed it's a very pricey area, were even a 2 bed terraced house would cost you about 100 grand. Certainly a place for the middle class rich. They must've spent a fortune on that house. Why does it matter where your house is located?.
I have heard once again that the car (or cars) that were at this house was a Rolls Royce, a Silver Shadow I believe. Apparently there is mention of this house and its occupants, with mention of the Rolls Royce, in a Wigan Today article. The person I spoke to remembers in the 1980s looking into the overgrown gardens and seeing a vintage car, and from what he could recall there was another one. Maybe the other car was an MG.
Anyone know what happened to this Silver Shadow, did someone save it for restoration or was it too far gone?. He also mentioned the house was overgrown with trees and the windows had mesh over them. Also said the house was demolished in 2007.
