Lokking for a quieter life, move to Wigan.

Started by: gaffer (7982)

An analysis of six million hits on the Rightmove website on Wednesday showed a surprising outcome.

The extract below from Today's Times shows the areas people want to move to.

According to Rightmove, coastal areas such as Cornwall, Devon and Hampshire are receiving the highest number of inquiries, followed by northern cities and towns like Manchester, Wigan and Warrington.

It doesn't say .... "folk want to move to Wigan "

It says, "coastal areas such as Cornwall, Devon and Hampshire"
and "northern cities and towns LIKE Manchester, Wigan and Warrington".

Although, I have read somewhere that Wigan has benefitted from association in the Liverpool City Region, especially the 'Liverpool City Region Housing Market Area'!

HaHaaaHaaHa! You're aaaall scouysers, laaaaike!

Actually, you were born in Billinge, Lancashire, where you were Christened in the Archdiocese of Liverpool. You moved to Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire. You grew up in Ashton in Makerfield and went to a school in Ashton in Makerfield that's named after a Yicker and run by the Archdiocese of Liverpool!
After living in two undisclosed places which, I suspect, were in Ashton in Makerfield, you moved to a part of Pemberton, in Wigan Council area, in Greater Manchester.
Still in the Archdiocese of Liverpool and now in Liverpool City Region housing area. You don't even have a Wigan accent!

Tom, impossible I'm afraid.

example:-
I wasn't born in Bolton. I didn't grow up in Bolton. I've never lived in Bolton. I don't speak with a Bolton accent.
However, I have property in Westhoughton, I have a BL5 address, and I pay council tax to Bolton Council.

Does that make me a 'Boltoner'? No!

No. And you're not from Liverpool either, so don't let anybody tell you that you are. Or Abram, Hindley or Ince.

Neither am I from Warrington. Nor Winwick. Nor Wigan.

Your name is Tom Eddleston. Not Tom Brindle or Walford.
You were a plumber, not a joiner or an electrician.

Reet! Startin' wi' Tom. Tha's ne'er proved me wrung yet!

Then, moving on to Billinge Baaaaiker, laaaaike ....

From that list I can see you've never even lived close to Wigan, let alone 'in' it.

But, something has come to my attention in that history of you.

If you're the same age as me (which you said you were, a couple of weeks back, on another thread) and you went to St.Thomas's in Heath Road, we might've been in the same class!

Blenheim Road, where one of my old friends lived, is also familiar. I used to associate with the Mappins, from Ashton Heath.

I, of course, know a few from round Sandy Lane. Do you remember the Sherridens?
