Wiggin Tree Pub and Restaurant.

Started by: oliver (166)

Just been to the Wiggin Tree on Parbold Hill for lunch with my hubby. Never again.! Used to go quite often before it was refurbished recently and found it o.k., but we've just paid £22.60 for two beef burgers and a pot of tea. It was a good burger I must admit, but not worth that much. They've spoiled the look of the room and the seats are uncomfortable and not as privately placed as they were. The girl that served us was pleasant but dressed in shabby jeans and Tshirt - for that money I expected a bit of class.! My husband said he didn't want to buy the place just wanted a meal.!! The cheapest meal was Corned Beef Hash and that was over £8. After all it's only 'lobbies'. Anyone else been?

I know I am asking a lot, but does anyone remember the Railway Carriage that used to be a Tea and Pop cafe thats all they had and it was a old dear that lived in the cottage (WigginTREE) that ran it , after the Bike ride from Southport on a Sunday and after riding as far as you could up the Parbold Hill and then pushing the bike it was a welcome OASIS

If i'm not mistaken I think it has just changed hands. It used to be a brewers fayre but I'm sure I've read somewhere that it has changed ownership.

It must have done Granada 'cos we used to go when it was Brewers fayre and the prices were really reasonable, the staff all wore uniforms and were really efficient. Thanks for the info Oliver, was gonna go this weekend but don't think i'll bother now.

We wondered what the Vale Royal was like. Certainly try it. £3.50 for a Carvery is much better than £9.50 for a burger. Just heard that the Red Lion in Aspull does a three course for £4.99 during the day and £7.99 evenings.
Elizabeth I remember there being a cafe where the Wiggin Tree is now, during the early sixties. It was just one room and served tea, coffee and kitkats and crisps. Showing our ages eh?

Oliver you must have plenty money to pay that much.I would have look at prices on Menu and walk out,If that was price.
I would be embarrested to tell anyone I paid that much for two beef burgers.
22.60 Pounds converts to $53 Australian,
I could,nt Imagine any Aussie paying that much for two beef burgers.

back int 60s you could sit inside at the front in what looked like a leanto.
we would stop in on our way back from southport on our motorbikes and just have a cup of coffee.
i think it got sold to percivals who owned the turnkey and smithills coaching house in Bolton.
in the times i have been in lately i havent been too impressed.
But that was about 6 years ago

Gozzer I used to go to the 'lean to' on the back of my brothers motorbike in the sixties. Great meeting place then for Bikers.
